Job Summary

Are you passionate about the arts in schools? We are seeking creative practitioners specialising in visual art or dance to join our artist team and work with teachers in primary schools on our 'Maths + Creativity = ?' project from September 25-26. Apply by 12 noon on Tuesday 12 August.

Job Description

Maths + Creativity = ? is an exciting new programme of work by Animate Arts Company & St Alphege Infant School, funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation's Teachers Development Fund.

Over the course of two academic years (2025-2027), we will be working with Maths Lead teachers and Art Lead Teachers in six Kent primary schools to inspire and develop ideas, skills and understanding in how to teach areas of the maths National Curriculum in non-traditional, anti-rote ways - using two complementary art forms, Visual Arts and Dance.

Through the two-year programme, we will be seeking to explore and test the following enquiry: What positive impact can we make on pupils' engagement, enjoyment and attainment when we apply an arts-based approach to the delivery of the Maths curriculum in primary schools?

Animate Arts is seeking 1 x visual artist and 1 x dancer to join our artist team in delivering this programme. Each creative practitioner will be partnered with a primary school for an academic year, working in partnership with teaching staff in maths lessons. The artists/dancers will work with the teachers in and out of the classroom to explore, devise and deliver creative teaching, and develop skills in dance or visual art. There will also be opportunities to develop arts-in-education pedagogy (for teachers and artists alike) through peer support, CPD, coaching and project learning days within the programme.
