Description

Job Summary

We invite artists to propose intimate, exploratory workshops for small groups of 6–12 adult participants, welcoming both beginners and experienced makers. These workshops will unfold in our gallery space during off-hours, alongside ongoing exhibitions, as part of a series of one-time 2hr sessions.

Job Description

Are you an artist passionate about sharing your skills? The Residence Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Hackney, London, is launching a new workshop series designed to inspire creativity, build community, and connect participants to the pulsating energy of contemporary culture and its wider creative landscape.

We invite artists to propose intimate, exploratory workshops for small groups of 6-12 adult participants, welcoming both beginners and experienced makers. These workshops will unfold in our gallery space during off-hours, alongside ongoing exhibitions, as part of a series of 2hr one-time sessions (4-6 workshops) in the coming weeks and months.

The framework:

  • Each session will last approximately 120 minutes, in the morning or evening (dates negotiable), at The Residence Gallery, 229 Victoria Park Road, London, E9 7HD
  • Tables and chairs will be provided, with material costs factored into ticket pricing.
  • Profits, after materials, will be split 60%/40% between Creative Workshop Leaders and the gallery.

Job Requirements

What we're looking for:

  • Skilled artists with good leadership experience and enthusiasm for creative learning and collaboration
  • Ability to create workshop sessions that embody the gallery's ethos -collaborative, fluid, and open-ended -embracing play as a form of exploration rather than a test of mastery.
  • Freethinkers to create workshops that explore contemporary art and cultural themes in ways that blur the lines between art, craft, skill, and community.
  • Activities mindful of the gallery environment -avoiding materials or processes that could permanently stain or disrupt the exhibition space.
  • Projects that allow participants to take home a tangible reminder of their time -something they made individually or collaboratively.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop a creative workshop plan for 4-6 people lasting 2 hours in a small gallery space.
  • Liaise with the gallerist to create a resourceful list of required materials and budget.
  • Work with the gallerist to prepare the workshop schedule and set-up.
  • Arrive on time to deliver the workshops with a friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and professional approach.
  • Oversee health & safety risk assessment and good practice for all those involved in the workshop sessions.

How to Apply

What to submit:

• A short bio introducing your practice and relevant cv.
• Your workshop proposal (concept, activities, and materials required).
• A link to your portfolio, website, or relevant social media.
