Description

Job Summary

Screen South, through its pioneering Accentuate Programme, is seeking an experienced film maker/editor to document their Curating Visibility project.

Job Description

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a film maker and editor with solid experience of capturing live events and workshops. We will need you to document some co-production workshops, documenting the process for creating the final digital interventions, as well as launch events, which will include speeches and some to-camera interviews with key stakeholders, so experience of interviewing will be key.

As several of our stakeholders are D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent, experience of working with disabled people will be valuable.

We are also looking for a film maker and editor with solid experience of adding access elements to film works, including:

  • Captions

  • Audio description

  • BSL in-vision

Given the focus of our programmes, and the fact that Accentuate is disabled-led, we are especially interested in filmmakers/editors who are themselves D/deaf, disabled, or neurodivergent. We will discuss any access requirements you have.

You will need to have the following:

  • Evidence that you are registered as a sole trader or company

  • Basic DBS check or agree that you will put this in place prior to work starting.

  • Company or personal liability insurance up to £10 million

What do you need to know?

Deadline for applications: 21 March 2025

Timeline of project: April 2025 - April 2026

Total Fee: approx. £16,400 (including VAT and expenses). Shoot kit to be provided by Screen South.

If you would like to apply for this freelance contract, please email [email protected] with your CV and a cover letter about how you fit the brief, including previous examples of your work and why you would like to be involved, as well as how you would propose to use the fee. Or you can send us a short 3 min film, or a video in BSL, responding with your interest and experience.

Job Requirements

The film maker/editor will be involved in capturing various milestones of the project, with a focus on the launch of 6 digital interventions at the six host museums, which are:

  • Food Museum, Stowmarket (June 2025)

  • IWM Duxford (July 2025)

  • Dover Museum (July/Aug 2025)

  • London Museum (April 2026)

  • Barnsley Museums (April 2026)

  • Charleston, Lewes (Sussex) (April 2026)

Given the focus of our programmes, and the fact that Accentuate is disabled-led, we are especially interested in filmmakers/editors who are themselves D/deaf, disabled, or neurodivergent. We will discuss any access requirements you have.

You will need to have the following:

  • Evidence that you are registered as a sole trader or company

  • Basic DBS check or agree that you will put this in place prior to work starting.

  • Company or personal liability insurance up to £10 million

Job Responsibilities

We expect the film maker/editor to be required for the following (although there may be more events to capture):

  • Several co-production sessions, involving small groups of people meeting at the partner museums. These are to be confirmed both in terms of date, number, and venue, but it is likely to be 1 per museum.

  • 6 x launch events, which are usually in the evening though they will likely be needed to capture footage during the day as well. These will be held at the six museums listed above. Each event will involve filming the event itself, as well as opening speeches, interviews with a few key stakeholders, and B-roll footage of the museums.
