Sessional Group Leader/Assistant Leader role with Dancing for Well-Being, a North Yorkshire charity delivering inclusive dance sessions for older adults. Warm, experienced facilitator sought. GL £70.06/session, AL £45.09/session.

Job Description

Dancing for Well-Being is a North Yorkshire charity delivering gentle, inclusive dance sessions for older adults and people living with health, mobility or emotional challenges. Founded on the principles of Circle Dance, our sessions foster belonging, connection and togetherness while supporting physical, emotional and social wellbeing. We run weekly groups across Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Boroughbridge and the surrounding areas.

We are looking for an experienced dance or movement facilitator to join our team on a sessional basis. The role involves a mix of Group Leading and Assistant Leading depending on the weekly rota, with Group Leading as the primary focus.

Sessions run for 1.5 hours. You will be expected to arrive 30 minutes before each session and stay for 15 minutes afterwards for set-up and close-down, making a total commitment of approximately 2 hours 15 minutes per session.

Pay is £70.06 per session as Group Leader and £45.09 as Assistant Leader.

We are looking for someone with availability across Monday afternoons, Tuesday all day, Wednesday all day, Thursday afternoons and Friday afternoons. Additional ad hoc work is available depending on your schedule.

This is a people-facing role that combines creativity, care and responsibility. We are not looking for a fitness instructor. We are looking for someone warm, reliable and musical, with a genuine belief in the power of dance to support wellbeing and the people skills to match.

Job Requirements

Essential: genuine belief in the power of music and dance to support wellbeing; demonstrable experience leading dance or movement sessions; confidence working with older people or those living with health, mobility or emotional challenges; strong interpersonal skills with a warm, non-judgemental approach; calmness under pressure; reliability and clear communication; willingness to complete basic admin tasks; ability to travel to sessions independently.

Desirable: community dance or dance teaching qualification; experience working with volunteers; experience in community arts, health or wellbeing settings; interest in outreach or development work.

Job Responsibilities

Plan and lead accessible, enjoyable dance sessions suited to a range of abilities. Create a safe, welcoming environment where members feel valued and at ease. Adapt sessions responsively to the group on the day. Guide and support assistant leaders and volunteers. Manage set-up, refreshment breaks and close-down. Complete session registers and handle payments accurately. Follow up with new or absent members and offer pastoral support where needed. Communicate clearly with the Operations Manager regarding attendance, incidents or follow-up needs. Respond calmly and appropriately to safeguarding, health and safety or wellbeing concerns.

Please send a CV and a short expression of interest detailing relevant experience to [email protected] by 5pm Friday 11th September 2026.
