Description
The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) wishes to appoint a Deputy Director with responsibility for fundraising, and leading the development of membership services.
The Deputy Director (Development; Membership) is a member of the Senior Management Team of the RSCM, all of whom are collectively responsible for the development and delivery of the RSCM's strategic plan, including attendance at the quarterly Council (Board) meetings. This appointment is 0.8FTE ie. 4 days a week. Salary shown is FTE.
This is an exciting time for our charity, as we build ambitious new plans for growth to take us through the milestone of our 2027 Centenary.
The RSCM enjoys the support of a close-knit, hard-working staff team and an engaged Board of Trustees, and this is an opportunity for someone to join the team who would like to play an active part in shaping the future of how we enable the flourishing of church music.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate most of the following skills and experience:
- Proven, successful experience of fundraising income generation within a charity or comparable organisation.
- Able to create and enact a fundraising strategy across multiple elements, including trusts, legacies, individual donors etc. and to focus on the most fruitful ones.
- Experience of working with a membership organisation (as a member of staff or on a board), with a demonstrable ability to grow membership.
- Understanding of user/client/customer bases, and applying such information to inform future planning and policy
- An experienced line manager, capable of inspiring staff to innovate and think creatively, but also able to oversee budgetary planning and control, ensuring appropriate levels of return of investment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to communicate the 'story' of our work clearly.
- An empathy with the mission of the RSCM.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the RSCM Director and working closely with the Deputy Director (Finance and Operations), this role is responsible for:
- Co-ordinating and growing the Development activity, including achievement of fundraising goals. In part, this will be overseeing work of other staff, but it will also include execution of fundraising tasks. A particular focus is the establishment and enactment of a Centenary Campaign to secure support for the charity's missional work (the centenary is in 2027).
- Growing the Membership of RSCM, furthering the existing plans and strategy for income growth, and planning together with colleagues an effective range of benefits, support and resources. Building relationships.
- Direct line management of Membership and Development staff.
- Fulfilling other responsibilities as part of the SMT, including regular management meetings.
