Job Summary

This is a pivotal leadership role created to ensure continuity and strategic direction during a period of organisational transition. The Deputy Director will provide operational leadership of the Wordsworth Trust following the Director’s temporary secondment to a major development project.

This is a dynamic, senior-level role with significant strategic and operational responsibility. You will be joining the Wordsworth Trust at an exciting time. Five years on from 'Reimagining Wordsworth and energised by a new vision and strategic direction, we hope to make an announcement soon about a further transformative development.

The Deputy Director will:

Provide operational leadership of the Wordsworth Trust following the Director's temporary secondment to a major development project.

Take on senior-level responsibility for the Trust's curatorial, programming and learning strategies.

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Essential

Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a museum, heritage, or cultural organisation.

Demonstrable experience of managing teams and leading through change.

Experience of audience development in the cultural sector.

Experience of successfully managing projects.

Financial literacy and experience of budget oversight.

Effective communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.

Experience of proactively engaging and working with external funders, including Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Commitment to inclusion, access, and community engagement.

Desirable

Experience of working with governing bodies and board-level reporting.

Experience of working in the charitable sector.

Knowledge of museum accreditation, collections care, or capital project planning.

Experience in stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and fundraising.

Experience of working in a small or medium-sized organisation.
