To contribute to the creation, staging and presentation of work of the highest artistic standards by assisting in the effective and efficient running of the Production Department. To deputise for the Head of Stage as and when required.

Job Description

To assist with the mounting and staging of YTR productions and events. To deputise for the Head of Stage during get-ins, fit-ups, get-outs, strikes, technical rehearsals and performances To assist in the booking of casual stage staff To work get-ins and get-outs for YTR and Touring productions and supervise, motivate and manage casual stage staff to an effective and high standard, when required to do so. To play a key role in the running of all productions at YTR and in other places - this includes rigging, operating flies, moving scenery and acting as DSM. To act as Duty Stage Manager and take responsibility for the Stage, as part of the Theatre's emergency procedures for performances, concerts or events as required. This includes the giving of toolbox talks, issuing access swipe cards and Health and Safety inductions for YTR and Touring Productions. Locking and unlocking the building when required to do so. To devise, order materials, construct and make stage properties or other scenic items within agreed budgets for YTR productions, as directed by the Head of Production/Production Manager, in consultation with the Head of Stage and the Production Designer. To ensure the stage, dock, workshop and other set and prop making areas in our buildings are organised, maintained and managed effectively and efficiently. To oversee the security, maintenance and good housekeeping of stage stock, materials, tools and equipment. To ensure PPE and H&S requirements are upheld at all times. To ensure that Health and Safety legislation and the Theatre's Policy and procedures are adhered to at all times. To carry out and communicate risk assessments for individual productions and/or department activities To carry out and record regular maintenance checks and preventative maintenance work on Stage equipment, including the scenic and flying equipment To ensure the good housekeeping of the department

Job Requirements

Person Specification Essential Knowledge and experience of mounting and crewing theatre productions Experience of counterweight flying and rigging Experience in the use of winches, motors, traps and other stage Machinery Experience of working with visiting companies Experience of making theatre in non-traditional theatre spaces Experience of working get-ins and get-outs Good practical making skills, particularly carpentry and joinery A positive attitude to finding solutions to problems The ability to work accurately under pressure The ability to think creatively Enthusiastic/energetic personality The ability to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays Desirable Experience of working in technical stage management in a professional, producing theatre Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation Ability to read and interpret technical drawings A genuine interest in theatre A full, clean driving licence

Job Responsibilities

Other Duties To carry out building maintenance or improvement as directed by the Head of Stage. Keep up to date with developments in theatre technology. To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required by the Head of Stage and/or Head of Production. General York Theatre Royal believes that the development of new audiences, especially younger audiences, is vital. All staff are expected to contribute in appropriate ways. It is the responsibility of every member of staff to assist in presenting York Theatre Royal to the public as a positive, efficient and welcoming organisation. Terms and Conditions Hours are annualised at 2080 hours per annum, worked flexibility to meet the needs of York Theatre Royal. Regular evening and weekend work will be required. The annual salary is ÂŁ30,857 The salary will be paid monthly Probationary period: 3 months Holiday Entitlement: 224 hours per annum Notice Period Required: 1 month during the probationary period.
