We are offering a three month freelance internship for a Design and Production assistant to join our small, friendly team and help produce our titles. This role will support our Director and . This internship may develop into a permanent role for the right candidate.

This internship is part-time, average 3 days a week (9.30am to 5pm), but could be more in busy periods. It is entirely based in our offices in Shoreditch. This is for 12 weeks with possible extension. Hourly rate: min. £13 ph AAE. Start: mid-October.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree or equivalent in graphic design
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, in particular InDesign and Acrobat Pro
  • A strong visual eye and proven design skills for typography and layout
  • Strong interest in illustrated book publishing or a related industry
  • Experience using html and editing on platforms such Squarespace
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • An ability to prioritise and multi-task as required.

Job Responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Creation of new covers and presentations including setting up style sheets and master pages for several language editions
  • Using InDesign to create and/or take in changes to page layout
  • Preparation of materials to be sent to clients/troubleshooting issues
  • Creating and updating catalogues in Indesign
  • Preparing and sending files to pre-press; plus colour correcting and other trouble-shooting as required
  • Creating pdf files for press, using InDesign to check bleed, layers, master pages and style sheets
  • Assisting with archiving of files
  • Support the editorial team with other tasks such as picture research

We are a small, busy office and you will be expected to 'muck in' and contribute to general office administration.
