To build and nurture long-term relationships with philanthropic donors, including trusts, foundations, individual donors and corporates. To help build the donor pipeline across all areas of fundraising and prepare and present targeted funding proposals to support the school.

Job Description

We are excited to be recruiting a motivated and organised Development Manager to join our small and passionate Development team.

In this role, you will build and nurture long-term relationships with philanthropic donors, including trusts, foundations, individual donors and corporates. You will help build the donor pipeline and prepare and present targeted funding proposals to support the school in achieving our ambitious and growing financial targets, particularly for our Scholarships and Bursaries programme. You will also play a key role in delivering our diverse programme of cultivation and stewardship events bringing a creative approach on a tight budget.

Our Development Manager should have a passion for the Arts and Culture sector, be happy to work independently as well as in a small, fast-paced team and have proven experience of:

  • Working in a donor or customer-facing role, ideally within a small, fast-paced not-for-profit, charity or private sector organisation, with exposure to philanthropy fundraising / sales or client relationship management
  • Communicating well, both verbally and in writing, with strong storytelling skills, along with influencing, negotiating and relationship building skills
  • Managing a portfolio whether of trusts, foundations, individual donors, or clients with a strong track record of meeting or exceeding income or revenue targets
  • Exceptional event management abilities, with an excellent eye for detail and the drive to see initiatives through to completion
  • Working with CRM systems, preferably Access

Job Requirements

Essential Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

Previous experience in prospect research and donor engagement within the non-profit/charity sector.

Previous experience in event planning and management.

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Experience using donor databases/CRM systems. Knowledge of Access preferred but not critical.

A proactive, relationship-driven approach to work.

Self-starter with the confidence to work alone as well as within a small, busy team.

Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

Prospect research.

Knowledge of grant writing and reporting.

Creative ideas for donor engagement and fundraising campaigns.

Familiarity with the Arts and Culture sector.

Job Responsibilities

Donor Stewardship & Engagement:

Manage and grow the Friends of ENBS network, ensuring members feel connected, appreciated, and informed.

Deliver high-quality stewardship through communications, acknowledgments, and impact updates.

Maintain and update the donor database, ensuring accurate records and insights. Events & Campaigns

Plan and deliver fundraising and stewardship events (e.g., Friends' Mornings, VIP and partnership events and community awareness activities).

Work with the Head of Development and Marketing and Communications Manager to design and implement fundraising campaigns.

Monitor event and campaign performance, reporting on outcomes. Grant Support

Research prospective funding opportunities across Trusts and Foundations.

Support grant applications in collaboration with the Head of Development.

Support reporting requirements and compliance for successful grants.

Work closely with the Head of Development to support strategic planning.
