Description

Job Summary

We're looking for someone to develop a digital platform (possibly an app or WhatsApp and website resource) that maps and connects people to the common land, green spaces, and places to collect food - which currently exist in a patchwork across Blackpool.

Job Description

We would like to develop a digital platform (possibly an app or WhatsApp and website resource) that could help us connect all of the different strands of conversations that are happening about food and growing. To map and connect people to the common land, green spaces, places to collect food that exist currently in a patchwork across Blackpool. Considering Blackpool as whole, an urban farm of sorts.

We need something that can:

  • Visually Map what exists now in terms of green spaces, some of this we will populate but we would like others to be able to populate it
  • Enable crowd sourcing, where public fruit trees, blackberry bushes, elderflower trees, nettle patches etc are, can the app provide notifications about when fruit is ready to pick?
  • Hold recipes we've collected from the community and provide notifications linked to the time the produce is available to harvest. As well as provide relevant recipes, stories or creative responses
  • Be something that can be added to and developed as the local landscape changes
  • Plot allotments and their open day's
  • Identify green alley ways and pocket parks

As we are an arts organisation, we would like this to be well designed and illustrated, and ideally have a creative collaboration as an approach.

Job Requirements

At LeftCoast we believe in high production values, we would want this platform to be a quality production with a design that enables easy usability.

We live and work in an area of digital poverty, so it also needs to be something that will work on a platform that is easily accessible.

The budget is for a 1 year project development and delivery that will create the resource, test and amend based on user feedback. Our ambition for the lifetime of this product is minimum 4 years and we would like applicants to be committed for this timeframe. We are keen to utilise existing mainstream systems, to ensure this a viable product that will be supported across different phones, as well as website friendly, and therefore will not require expensive product development over the duration of the 4 years.

We need the digital partner to clearly record and document how the system works so that if a hand over is required at any point, there is a transparent and seamless handover.

Job Responsibilities

We believe there are two elements to this brief:

  1. A technical role - App/Website/WhatsApp development and content management system
  2. A digital creative - Someone who can creatively respond to the application framework and information put on it by the public

We are looking for collaborations or organisations that can bring both elements together to apply for this opportunity.
