The Royal College of Music is seeking to appoint a Digital Officer to manage digital infrastructure, create assets, and upgrade display technology.
The Wolfson Centre facilitates access to the Museum collections for purposes of research and education and collaborates with national and international partners in projects related to the advancement of knowledge, documentation and dissemination of musical heritage.
The Museum Digital Officer will manage the digital infrastructure that provides internal and external access to over 10,000 collection records (currently based on Axiell CMS) as well as support the creation of digital assets such as digital exhibitions, video recordings and social media posts in collaboration with the other members of the team. They will also help to maintain and upgrade the digital hardware deployed in the Museum display.
We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:
- A strong interest in music, musical heritage and cultural heritage in general, with an awareness and a curiosity towards digital humanities and current trends in digital museums and collections
- Strong experience and a track record in the areas of coding, CMS maintenance and database management
- Experience in digital content generation on different platforms
- A highly organised individual with excellent communication skills, able to deliver results to a high standard, manage and innovate independently as well as in close collaboration with the rest of the team and other departments
This post is offered on a permanent, part-time (0.4 FTE) /14 hours per week basis and is immediately available.

- Degree in Digital Humanities or equivalent
- At least three years of experience in Museum digitisation and documentation projects
- Experience in CMS management, particularly Axiell AdLib
- Experience with digital content development including digital and social media
- Experience with audio and video creation, editing and subtitling
- Coding and digital asset management skills
- A keen interest in music and musical heritage
- Well organised, reliable and produces high quality output over a prolonged period of time
- Collaborates to deliver complex projects, within time and budget
- Well organised, systematic and reliable working independently
- A strong team player, who will contribute to a positive team culture
- A commitment to recognising, valuing and celebrating diversity and to proactively advancing equality and inclusive practice in all areas of College life.
- Delivering the Museum's Digital Strategy and Forward Plan and supporting the delivery of the Documentation Plan.
- Managing development and maintenance of the CMS for all collections' materials, including coordinating digitization efforts, metadata development and database search capabilities.
- Proactively communicating, verbally and in writing, with managers and team members on digital issues.
- Overseeing digitisation work, including: preparing and scanning documents, prints, engravings, and photographs from the Museum collections, directly or in collaboration with external agencies, volunteers and interns.
- Photographing collection items with no current image, following guidelines provided by the Museum and creating accurate metadata for digitised
- Supporting the promotion of the Museum through social media and digital resources aimed at marketing and dissemination among different audiences.
