Job Description

The Hera Project is looking for a new Director to lead the charity in its exciting next phase, following the retirement of our founding director Emma Drew. From its beginnings, the charity has successfully pioneered access to arts and culture for people facing health barriers. We work with a wide range of arts, primary care and community partners, and we need someone with high level skills, commitment and strategic vision. Professional experience of managing arts activities in community and/or health settings is essential.

This role is 4 days per week, salary £47,810-£54,710 depending on experience (£38,248-£43,768 pro rata), with 8% pension contribution and 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.

Job Requirements

The Director will lead, support, develop and motivate a small team of staff and freelances, in order to deliver the charity's aims in line with its core values of creativity, community, quality and safety. They will take overall responsibility for the organisation's administration and financial management, working with the board of trustees and external partners to develop long-term strategy and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. They will act as an ambassador for the organisation and build/manage relationships with key stakeholders, in order to maintain and develop the charity's role as a leading provider of, and advocate for, arts and culture in health settings.

Job Responsibilities

  • With the support of the board and the outgoing director, finalise a strategic plan for approval by the board of trustees
  • Set and operate within budget and ensure policies & procedures are up-to-date
  • Work with strategic partners to advance the cause and impact of Creative Health, ensuring that arts and culture are always at the core of our work
  • Manage a close and supportive team, who work both in project locations and remotely
  • Recruit and manage service leads or other staff as needed
  • Ensure reporting to funders is complete and on time
  • Build relationships with policy makers, the media and others in order to advance the organisation's aims
  • Manage evaluation of the organisation's impact, programmes and financial health
  • Represent the organisation at external events and publicity opportunities
  • Maintain awareness of risks and changes in the external environment that may affect the organisation
  • Build an effective working relationship with the chair of the board and other trustees
