Description

Job Summary

Down to Earth would like to commission a temporary Pop-up Venue to bring high quality arts and culture to communities across our borough

Job Description

Down to Earth is the Creative People and Places Programme working across the Borough of Wigan. We aim to connect more people with the borough's abundance of high quality green space through creative activities, & engage local communities as audiences, advocates & leaders to create new work, together, that couldn't be made anywhere else.

Themes/Tone of the venue

The design of the Pop-up should respond to one or more of the following:

  • Comfort
  • Nature
  • Creativity

The venue should be inviting, and it should be clearly identifiable as belonging to Down to Earth, and being FREE to join in.

Uses of the Venue

The venue is intended to host arts activity, this could include workshops and performances in a wide variety of environments. It should be able to comfortably accommodate 12 people seated around a large central table or an audience for an intimate gig or performance.

It should make an impact wherever we pitch it, it needs to draw people out of their houses when we arrive on a residential green in the middle of Westleigh or be a focal point of a field of stalls at larger events like Flashes Festival of Nature.

Job Requirements

Essential Requirements

  1. Waterproof, wind and weather resistant (We work mostly outside in the North West of England).
  2. Robust and resilient - we plan to use the pop-up venue twice a week for the next 4 years. With minimal need for repair.
  3. Able to be constructed by two members of staff in less than an hour, with minimum of tools.
  4. Fit into the back of a small van in its entirety. We mostly use a Citroen Berlingo (3.3m3) but may have to also hire other vans on occasion.
  5. Can be safely pitched on grass and on hard standing when required.,
  6. Must be able to operate with no access to external power (or have it's own rechargeable battery source). Examples of 'energy use' could include: small heaters, PA System and lighting.
  7. Must provide risk assessments, wind management plans, construction method statements upon completion of the build.
  8. In compliance with our commitment to reduce our impact on the climate, the build should use sustainable materials where-ever possible.
