Are you passionate about creating powerful community theatre pieces? SPID Theatre is looking for a Dramaturg / Script Developer to help develop and write a brand-new stage production, The Journey, from the ground up.

Overview
Estate Endz is SPID's Theatre's community heritage programme for ages 13 to 25, where young people work together to rehearse and perform an original play inspired by the community.
This year's EE production, The Journey, follows two characters who board a mysterious train moments after their lives have ended. As they travel towards their final destination, each station reveals memories from their lives, exploring identity, family, friendship, love, ambition, loss and legacy.
Following on from our Estate Voices research programme, participants will help bring the story to life through rehearsals before performing 6 Show to the public.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
Audition and opportunity to be cast in the production
Develop acting and performance skills
Rehearse with a professional creative team
Build characters and scenes
Take part in oral history interviews
Perform in six performances to the public.

Job Requirements

Experience writing or dramaturging new theatre.
Excellent storytelling and script development skills.
A strong understanding of character, dialogue and dramatic structure.
Experience working collaboratively with artists and community participants.
An interest in socially engaged and community-led theatre.
The ability to transform real stories into compelling theatrical narratives.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
An understanding of inclusive creative practice.

Desirable
Experience with devised theatre.
Experience working with young people or community arts projects.
Knowledge of site-specific or immersive theatre.
Experience incorporating oral history or lived experience into performance.

Job Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director to develop the script from concept to final draft.
Attend research workshops where possible and gather material to inform the script.
Transform participant stories, discussions and creative outputs into compelling dramatic scenes.
Develop the play's characters, structure, dialogue and overall narrative.
Research themes including identity, purpose, community, legacy and the human experience.
Contribute ideas for audience interaction, staging and theatrical storytelling.
Revise the script following feedback throughout the development process.
Attend script development meetings and production discussions.
Work collaboratively with the director, creative team and cast during rehearsals to refine the script.
