To provide evaluation consultancy services for Derby Libraries Dungeons & Dragons project, assess impact and share learning.

Job Description

Do you believe in the power of meaningful evaluation and organisational learning? Do you have experience of and enjoy working with young people? Are you experienced in developing and implementing evaluation processes for heritage projects? Are you inspired by Derby's local history and/or TTRPGs?

If so, we need your skills and expertise to lead evaluation of this exciting project.

Our project, made possible thanks to National Lottery players, will see young volunteers coming to the Local Studies Library to create a fantasy role-playing campaign, based on Dungeons and Dragons from Wizards of the Coast. They'll work alongside library staff, a games-master and a range of professional creatives to uncover stories from the library's archival collection and weave them into the game.

Timeframe: August 2025 - March 2027.

Job Requirements

To engage with the Project Coordinator and Project Manager, familiarising themselves with the aims of the project and of the library.

To provide a draft evaluation framework, using a recognised model of evaluation such as Theory of Change for monitoring and evaluation of the project, including a timeline and an action plan.

To provide detailed methodology of how to implement the framework providing any supporting materials/tools to capture evaluation.

Lead on the gathering of quantitative and qualitative data, including methods such as activity logs, participation questionnaires, and feedback forms, etc.

To embed themselves in the project, taking a hands-on approach to the work, including attendance at project sessions, formal and informal interviews with participants and personnel, etc.

To provide evaluation reports periodically throughout the project lifecycle.

To undertake a final review, written report and presentation to the team.

Job Responsibilities

To lead on developing an evaluation framework and associated action plan designed to effectively evaluate the project against the original aims and objectives.

Liaison and collaboration with University of Derby staff and students who will conduct a research project exploring wellbeing benefits of TTRPG alongside the main project evaluation.

Ensure evaluation of the project utilised guidance on evaluation from The Heritage Fund and reports comply with their requirements.

The Evaluation Consultant will identify clear methodologies and create a range of tools that can be implemented by the project team to gather data and will carry out an interim assessment.

The Evaluation Consultant will undertake a final review upon completion of the project shared via a written report and a presentation to the project team to provide a point of reflection and foster learning for future projects.

Fee: £10,000 (indicative 25-30 days)
