Job Summary

Hull Museums and Gallery is seeking an Exhibitions and Events Assistant to support the delivery of a busy schedule of exhibitions, public and corporate events across the Museums Quarter and Ferens Art Gallery. The role will involve evening or weekend work.

Job Description

The post holder will be responsible for liaising with exhibition lenders and community groups to deliver exhibitions and supporting events at the Streetlife Museum, Wilberforce House Museum and Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology. The post will involve planning and overseeing installs, managing risk, providing information for marketing and promotion and collecting and processing visitor data, feedback and evaluation.

You will also lead on the planning and delivery of income generating public and corporate events across the service, ranging from talks to large scale events across the museums quarter site and evening corporate events. Duties include managing bookings, liaising with suppliers, risk assessments, setting up resources and equipment (including IT and Audio Visual) and managing the smooth delivery of these events.

Job Requirements

First degree in related subject.

Experience of working in a museum/art gallery environment

Experience of working with collections

Experience of object interpretation, documentation, and exhibition projects

Flexible approach to work and ability to work alone or in a team

Excellent organisational, planning and project management skills, with an ability to work to tight deadlines

Flexible approach to working in a number of different workplace locations

Imaginative approach to exhibitions & interpretation

Ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences

Sound knowledge of culture, heritage and art

Ability to communicate fully with a wide range of people

Produce accessible, clear, accurate text for internal and external use

Able to work flexibly including evenings and weekends

Job Responsibilities

Forward planning of a programme of exhibitions and events up to two years in advance

Monitoring budget provision allocated to exhibitions and events

Managing the technical equipment, suppliers and facilities, ensuring that they conform to Health and Safety standards

Liaise with the curatorial team to ensure appropriate storage, security, documentation, handling and environmental conditions for loans.

Work with the team to effectively market, publicise and promote the Service's exhibition and events programme

Develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations and groups

Assist with evaluation of exhibitions and events, gathering visitor statistics, feedback, image & video documentation, providing written reports for key stakeholders
