Job Description

We're looking for an enthusiastic, proactive Events Manager who is ready to roll up their sleeves and take ownership of our growing events offer. This role would suit someone with a few years of relevant experience who is now looking for a long-term opportunity to develop professionally within a supportive, passionate team.

You'll be responsible for coordinating and managing a wide variety of events - both private and public - from initial enquiry to post-event follow-up. This includes hands-on delivery (typically evenings and weekends), staffing, client communication, bar and catering coordination, and all associated admin.

Please note that The Golden Hinde is a unique historic vessel. Temperatures and weather conditions may vary. The work can be physically demanding, involving uneven surfaces, ladders, stairs, and occasional confined spaces. Flexibility, resilience, and adaptability are essential.

The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator, highly organised, with a practical mindset and strong attention to detail. A can-do attitude, creative thinking, and the ability to work flexibly and independently are essential.

Salary: £28,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years experience delivering events or working in a similar hospitality/venue role
  • Experience managing events end-to-end (enquiries, setup, delivery, post-event)
  • Experience coordinating catering or bar operations
  • Physically able to work onboard a ship (uneven surfaces, stairs, ladders)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Available to work regular evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safe handling (formal training a bonus)
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Comfortable working independently, proactively and under pressure
  • Hands-on approach with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal

DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Interest in heritage, history, and/or immersive events
  • Sales, marketing, or business development experience
  • First Aid or safeguarding certification (or willingness to train)
  • Experience working in a small team

Job Responsibilities

Event Coordination & Delivery

  • First point of contact for enquiries.
  • Manage bookings from enquiry to post-event.
  • Oversee and deliver events on-site (approx. 15+ hrs/week), including setup, staff supervision, bar and catering support.
  • Lead post-event evaluation and communication.

Admin & Logistics

  • Maintain event calendars and schedules.
  • Liaise with internal teams and freelancers.
  • Source and coordinate caterers, performers, and suppliers.
  • Manage budgets, invoices, and reporting.
  • Oversee stock control for bar/catering.

Venue Development

  • Contribute to our 'After Dark' public events programming.
  • Help develop new event formats.
  • Support business development and audience growth.

Other

  • Assist with daytime bar/refreshments during holidays or special events.
  • Support general ship operations as needed (we're a small team - all hands on deck!)
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks or duties as required to support the needs of the business
