Job Summary

Due to continued growth and success, we are seeking an organised, proactive Finance Officer to run our financial operations and play a key role in the ongoing development and long-term sustainability of the organisation.

Job Description

Reporting to the Artistic Director/CEO and the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, you will lead both the strategic and day-to-day financial management of ADPT. This is varied and rewarding role that combines big-picture financial planning with hands-on accounting and operational duties.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Finalist or newly qualified member of a recognised accounting body
  • Significant experience in all bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting tasks
  • Experience with budgeting and management accounting
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Office 365 (Excel and Word in particular) and accounting software (we currently use Xero and Sage Cloud Payroll)
  • Ability to balance strategic financial management with day-to-day operational tasks and to prioritise effectively

Desirable

  • Experience in a similar financial role
  • Knowledge of the charity sector and charity accounting
  • Understanding of the UK arts and culture industry
  • Awareness of Cultural VAT exemption and Theatre Tax Relief
  • Experience of till systems and POS software

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Finance

  • Contribute to the overall financial management and long-term planning of ADPT
  • Produce annual budgets and regular reforecasts.
  • Support and produce large-scale and long-term funding applications
  • Produce monthly management accounts for the Finance Committee
  • Liaise with external bodies including HMRC, Charities Commission and others as required
  • Manage all year-end processes and support Independent Auditors
  • Oversee procurement of financial services, systems and products

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Carry out bookkeeping tasks
  • Maintain efficient and accurate financial systems and support staff in their use
  • Work closely with project managers to monitor budgets and produce financial reports for funders
  • Manage payroll ensuring timely payments and statutory submissions
  • Manage pension scheme administration
  • Oversee cash handling, till management and income recording
  • Produce financial reconciliations for events and liaise with visiting artists
