Each year we celebrate the unique story of Wigan’s Flashes with a weekend of creative and nature activities at Pennington Flash. Celebrating both it’s industrial past and it’s current status as Greater Manchester’s only National Nature Reserve. The festival will take place on Sunday 6th July.

Storyteller Commission

As part of the festival programme we are commissioning a storyteller to create original stories that respond to the unique story of Pennington Flash, from it's industrial past, to the incredible story of landscape recovery. We are particularly interested in approaches that will create or co-create new folklore around this unique national nature reserve.

The fee will be £1500 Inclusive of VAT, materials, travel and all over expenses.

Job Requirements

The successful artist will:

  • Lead on 4 story-creation sessions with local groups that Down to Earth will support to identify and engage - likely to include primary school children, youth groups and nature volunteers.
  • Create final versions of the stories and perform them at Flashes Festival of Nature on Sunday 6th July.
  • Create recordings of the stories in written, illustrated, audio or video forms as appropriate for Down to Earth's future use.

How to Apply

Your application should contain the following:
• Information about your previous experience of running similar activity.
• An example Video or Audio of your storytelling practice.
These can be submitted in any format that feels most appropriate to you but should not consist of more than 2000 words in written form or 5 minutes of audio/video.
