Job Summary

I’m looking for a reliable and skilled freelance ceramics technician to support the smooth running of my pottery studio. This role is ideal for someone who already has their own studio and would like extra work here and there to supplement their existing practice.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have solid studio experience, including:

  • Trimming on the wheel with confidence and consistency
  • Glazing (mixing, application and general glaze knowledge)
  • Clay reclaiming and managing reclaim systems
  • Prepping clay (wedging, recycling, bagging, etc.)
  • Studio cleaning & maintenance to keep the space running efficiently

You are:

  • Experienced in a working ceramics studio
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Detail-oriented and tidy
  • Reliable, punctual, and easy to communicate with

My studio is a welcoming, well-organised space, and you'll be supported by a friendly and experienced team.

Pay: £15 per hour (above the London Living Wage).
Hours: Half days or full days. A full day is 7 hours on site with a 1-hour unpaid break; you will be paid for 6 hours.
Days: Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday preferred, but flexibility is possible.

Job Requirements

I would love to have a studio technician join my team. The studio technician will work on rotation with other technicians in my team or if you would like a regular slot of 1 possibly 2 days a week this can be discussed. You may be assisting me on some days but there will be times where you will be on your own in the studio carrying out tasks.

You will be in charge of :

  • Trimming student work on the wheel
  • Weighing and preparing clay for commissions and student workshops sessions
  • Preparing and mixing glazes
  • Glazing work
  • Sanding work
  • Loading and unloading the kiln
  • Studio housekeeping and stock management
  • Packaging orders
  • Opening and closing the studio
  • Packaging and posting orders


Job Responsibilities

I would like to interview candidates who have at least 1 year of experience in a similar role, have own initiative, be able to work unsupervised at times, follow instructions and be of good character.

Flexibility will be considered in relation to working days and hours.
