Job Summary

Attic Theatre Company are seeking an experienced ESOL practitioner to deliver creative sessions for refugee & migrant young people (aged 16-24), including those who are seeking asylum in South London.

Job Description

Based in LB Merton, Attic has over 30 years' experience of offering a diverse range of workshops and participatory activities for children, young people and adults in our local area. We have been working specifically with young refugees for the past 25 years, delivering programmes promoting wellbeing, integration into UK culture, employability skills, language development and confidence building.

This project will take place in a college in Carshalton, Surrey, and is aimed at young people aged 16 to 24. The focus will be on supporting the English language development of the participants, developing speaking and listening skills, having fun, being creative, and using drama as a healthy outlet.

Dates: Weekly on Mondays during term time (initially 15th Sept - 20th Oct, with potential for continuance to the end of the year).

Times: 1:30pm - 3.30pm

Fee: £100-115 per 2 hour session, dependent on experience, plus £35 termly planning meeting fee. This fee covers all weekly preparation and planning, inclusive of weekly monitoring, evaluations and termly impact reports.

Job Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum two years experience facilitating drama and theatre projects.
  • Experience working with EAL/ESOL
  • Experience working with refugees and asylum seekers
  • Experience of TEFL
  • Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with high pastoral needs
  • Proven ability to deliver fun drama-based activities to promote wellbeing
  • Consistently available for the project and able to travel to venue
  • Full enhanced DBS certification
  • Due to the sensitive nature of this project and its participants, the successful candidate will be required to have high levels of discretion and confidentiality.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • TEFL qualification
  • Qualification in Applied Theatre or equivalent
  • Safeguarding trained
  • First Aid Trained
