Children’s Capital of Culture is seeking to commission a filmmaker to capture and create a range of engaging film content celebrating Children’s Capital of Culture’s Festival Year 2025.

Job Description

Children's Capital of Culture are looking for a filmmaker who can work collaboratively with our team and partners to create a diverse range of high-quality videos that highlight the vibrancy and impact of our Festival Year.

The films must effectively promote Children's Capital of Culture, utilising our overarching brand and visual identity, and highlight the impact of the project in an accessible and engaging way.

The films that are created must be made and shared in accordance with data protection, safeguarding and health and safety guidance, and must be suitable to be shared with public audiences, including children, young people and parents and carers.

The key deliverables from this brief are to create:

  • Impact Films: Minute-long films that showcase the significant moments during the Festival Year and impact of our events.
  • Storytelling Film: A longer emotive film (3-5 minutes) that narrates the journey and stories behind the festival year, celebrating the achievements and experiences that have been part of it.
  • Short Edits for Social Media: Dynamic and engaging short videos (15-30 seconds) suitable for social media platforms.

A total fee is available of £12,500 + VAT.

This fee includes all aspects of project delivery, including planning, filming and editing of footage, material costs, travel and expenses, including DBS checks if relevant.

Job Requirements

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Proven experience of creating high-quality and creative film outputs.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with event organisers and participants.
  • Demonstrable creativity in capturing the essence of the festival and its cultural significance.
  • Flexibility to attend various events throughout the year.
  • Your own Public Liability Insurance

To ensure the safety and security of our staff, freelancers, volunteers and the participants we work with, Children's Capital of Culture have a robust set of safeguarding procedures in place. If you're applying for this commission and already hold a Basic or Enhanced DBS check, please let us know in your application. If your application is successful, we will request to see a copy of your DBS check. If you don't have a DBS check yet, you can still apply, but if you're successful we'll need to support you to complete a DBS check before this work can commence.

Job Responsibilities

The appointed filmmaker will:

  • Attend a wide range of Children's Capital of Culture (CCoC) events and activities across 2025, capturing event footage alongside interviews and behind the scenes content. We anticipate approximately 15 working days would be allocated to filming at least 10 events.
  • Work collaboratively with the CCoC team to deliver creative and professional films in a variety of formats, including working with the team to determine the focus and structure for the final edits of the films.
  • Deliver films to agreed timescales. This commission will run from June 2025 until January 2026. We expect a range of Impact Films and Shorter Edits for Social Media to be produced throughout this period. We expect the Storytelling Film, which will provide an overview of the whole Festival Year, to be produced by January 2026.
  • Ensure the films are created and shared in accordance with all relevant safeguarding and health and safety guidance, including data protection guidance.
