Bookmarked: Thirsk is a year-long programme of cultural events, creative workshops, performances and community-led experiences designed to animate Thirsk High Street, increase footfall, and strengthen connections between local people, businesses and cultural organisations.

Rural Arts is seeking an experienced Marketing & Graphic Designer to develop and deliver the marketing campaign for Bookmarked: Thirsk 2026, our flagship project funded through the Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative freelancer with strong branding, graphic design and marketing experience to help shape the identity of a town-wide cultural programme celebrating books, storytelling and creativity.

Job Requirements

We'd love to hear from freelancers who:

- Have a strong background in graphic design and branding.
- Have experience delivering successful marketing campaigns, ideally for arts, cultural or community projects.
- Are confident creating engaging content across print, digital and social media.
- Can work sensitively with participant-led and community-generated content.
- Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Are enthusiastic about championing creative and community-focused projects.

Job Responsibilities

Working closely with the project team, you will:

- Design the Bookmarked: Thirsk 2026 logo and visual identity.
- Develop and maintain the project's social media presence.
- Create branded templates for social media posts, posters and flyers.
- Design an on-screen advert for screening at The Ritz Cinema.
- Lead the promotion of the programme launch in September 2026.
- Lead the promotion of the Art Trail launch in March 2027.
- Ensure all communications meet the branding requirements of the funders.
- Regularly update the project website with programme information and events.
- Promote opportunities for community and partner engagement.
- Write and distribute a monthly Bookmarked: Thirsk newsletter.
- Build relationships with local press and secure media coverage.
- Act as a positive ambassador for the Bookmarked project.
- Deliver all work to a professional, high-quality standard.
