Job Description

Join the National Youth Orchestra's freelance team and help shape life-changing musical experiences for the UK's most talented teenage musicians.

NYO is the UK's leading organisation championing orchestral music as a powerful agent for teenage development. Each year, we create extraordinary opportunities for young people to connect, grow, and inspire others through music.

We're currently looking to expand our pool of Stage Assistants to support the delivery of our exciting summer 2025 residencies and concert tours. This freelance role is ideal for organised, hands-on individuals with a passion for live music and a desire to support young people.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting load-in/load-out of instruments and equipment

  • Setting up and striking rehearsal and performance spaces

  • Preparing and maintaining staging items (chairs, stands, podiums, lighting)

  • Assisting with large instrument logistics (double basses, harps, percussion)

  • Contributing to safe and efficient stage operations

You'll be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team helping to create seamless behind-the-scenes support for impactful youth-led performances across the UK.

The role is offered on a freelance, self-employed basis, with daily rates agreed according to experience. As a guide, the typical fee is £140 per day, with all expenses covered.

The initial periods of engagement are:

  • 1 - 11 July 2025
  • 29 July - 10 August 2025
