Job Summary

Armonico Consort is seeking exceptional, disciplined and reliable Choir Workshop Leaders to deliver Phase Two of its Choral & Operatic Education Partnership with the Transformation Trust, beginning January 2026. This phase builds on foundations and prepares schools for a Spring large-scale operetta.

Job Description

Contract: January 2026 - end of Spring term 2026
Location: Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull & Walsall (cluster-based)
Hours: 2-13 per week (term time, during the school day)
Pay: FREELANCE £55 per hour / £240 per day (over 3 hours) + travel
Interviews: Week commencing 5 January 2026

Leaders must deliver high-energy, tightly structured and musically ambitious sessions that meet Armonico Consort's professional standards. This is a quality-critical role. Consistency, planning, classroom control and musical authority are non-negotiable.

Job Requirements

You will be required to:

  • Deliver weekly, structured choir sessions in assigned schools, following Armonico Consort's AC Academy "house style"
  • Provide clear behaviour expectations, firm classroom control and high engagement at all times
  • Use written session plans for every workshop (to be shared on request)
  • Actively correct intonation, posture, breath support, diction and tone
  • Demonstrate clear progression across sessions towards performance readiness
  • Use provided resources and repertoire fully prepared and in advance
  • Maintain punctuality, reliability and professional communication with schools and Armonico staff
  • Attend mandatory training and feedback sessions with AC's Lead Choral Director
  • Support and attend spring rehearsals and performances

Failure to meet expected standards in planning, musical delivery, behaviour management or professionalism may result in immediate removal from the programme.

Job Responsibilities

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Proven experience leading choirs or vocal workshops with children
  • Strong behaviour management and leadership presence
  • Secure musicianship (pitch, rhythm, musicality, part-singing)
  • Confidence in leading vocal warm-ups and technique
  • Ability to plan sessions with clear musical and behavioural outcomes
  • Excellent reliability, organisation and communication
  • Understanding of safeguarding & professional boundaries
  • Willingness to receive and act on direct feedback
  • Enhanced DBS must be obtained
  • Right to work in the UK
    (Piano/keyboard skills strongly preferred)
