Grizedale Arts is a small, dynamic arts charity based at Lawson Park (East of Lake, Coniston) and The Farmer's Arms (Lowick Green). We are looking for a gardener to contribute to the care and development of the land and gardens of our two sites. This is an opportunity to work within a visionary cultural organisation under artist / film maker Karen Guthrie, an innovative Head Gardener who has developed Lawson Park's gardens from scratch since 2002. Lawson Park is our artists' residency base high above Coniston Water, with a varied 3 acres or so under cultivation (in an estate of 12 acres). We acquired the listed pub The Farmer's Arms in 2021 and have since been developing ornamental, productive and biodiversity-led gardens on its 6 acres. Deadline for Applications You will need to be an experienced horticulturalist and enthusiastic team player. Lawson Park's small garden team of 3 work together on Tuesdays only, so an ability to quickly assess the week's workload and plan the gardening day efficiently is vital. Lawson Park regularly hosts residential volunteer groups who work in the garden, so a willingness to share knowledge and enjoyment for working alongside less experienced gardeners is important, as is a capacity to talk to visitors and members of the public about the garden and the organisation when required. At The Farmer's Arms, you will be the sole regular gardener, so you will need to be self-motivated and well-organised, working there for one 4 hour shift weekly. There is scope to expand the role at The Farmer's Arms to include teaching and project work, or self-initiated land-based projects. Typical duties include, but will not be limited to the following: Apply Online via Grizedale Arts websiteJob Summary
