A resident role with a one-bed flat: Under the direction of the Director and Assistant Director of Drama the postholder will help to facilitate the day-to-day running of the programme and and the production of a wide variety of performances.

Under the direction of the Director and Assistant Director of Drama the postholder will help to facilitate the day-to-day running of the programme and the production of a wide variety of performances.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly motivated and dedicated body of students and staff in an environment in which Drama is recognised and celebrated as both an important academic subject and as a hugely valuable cultural experience.

A key area of responsibility will be assisting with the LAMDA lesson programme, with the successful candidate teaching some one-to-one lessons, organizing LAMDA showcases and liaising with the LAMDA Administration Assistant.

There is an expectation that the postholder would be a Resident Tutor in one of College's boarding houses and would be expected to undertake evening duties and responsibilities to assist with the smooth running and pastoral care of the pupils.

Terms and Conditions / Benefits

  • 0.71 FTE role as the role is full time for 33 weeks per annum (Term Time only)
  • Salary: (based £14.88 per hour) is £20,636.57 per annum pro-rata, based on a full-time / full-year salary of £29,016.00 per annum)
  • 3-point Responsibility Allowance to be paid for being a resident with boarding duties (£1,860 per annum)
  • 37.5 hour per week, as tasked by the Director of Drama; in addition, boarding duties, as agreed with the Houseparent
  • On-site accommodation provided (year-round), all utilities inclusive apart from Council Tax. A taxable benefit in kind will arise on the value of utilities. Council tax will be payable as assessed by the local council.
  • All meals during the term can be taken at College

Job Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven commitment to working with young people to produce outstanding Drama
  • Experience of working in theatre [amateur or professional] as a director, producer, performer or technician
  • Degree in Drama/Theatre Studies or equivalent level of achievement in a related subject.
  • Genuine passion for the Arts and an ability to inspire passion in others.
  • Willingness to be flexible about working hours and regularly working weekends and evenings.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience of light rigging and design and an ability to programme a 12-channel lighting board
  • Ability to both design and construct theatre sets
  • Experience of Theatre production including budgeting, marketing and organization of rehearsals
  • Experience of working/teaching in a school.
  • Experience of teaching or studying LAMDA exams
  • Experience of running workshops for pupils of all ages
  • Understanding of the processes involved in applying to Drama school

Drama Dept

  • Ensure the effective day to day running of the co-curricular programme,
  • Directing, co-directing and producing a variety of performances; including a Scholars' Play performed in a professional theatre, large-cast musicals and small-scale studio theatre productions
  • Teaching individual LAMDA lessons (1-to-1) Training provided.
  • Assisting in some curricular lessons.
  • Running practical skills-based workshops or working with small groups as they devise original Drama or rehearse scripts. There will also be the requirement to
  • Understanding that our pupils' development is at the heart of everything we do, so the role will involve mentoring and supporting our students to reach their full potential.
  • Supporting students stage their own productions.
