As freelance Head Gardener for the Chamberlain Highbury Trust (CHT), you will be at the heart of Highbury. Our National Lottery Heritage Fund Project (Heritage Fund) will connect Highbury with local communities, Birmingham people, and most of all young people and children. We are after someone or more than one person who has some skills and experience of horticulture, engaging communities, helping people to learn and gain skills for themselves and can motivate our gardens volunteers. CHT does not employ anyone, but this role will join an existing small freelance team who are passionate about bringing Highbury to life. To provide efficient and high-quality restoration, management and maintenance of CHT's 33-acre historic grounds - making the most of the funds put into the historic landscape restoration To work as part of a professional project team including Project Manager, Landscape Architects and Landscape contractors. To work as part of a team of CHT freelancers, collaborating with and supporting the work of each other, and to manage the workplan of CHT's Volunteers Coordinator To set up things we need to be more sustainable in managing the gardens. E.g. waste wood and composting facilities To protect and enhance the biodiversity of the gardens. To support the work of our great gardens' volunteers, developing their skills, confidence, contributing to their well-being. To make sure that the gardens look well-presented so that our visitors have a good experience. Also to talk to the public informally when on site. To work well with the Protocol Group. Responsibility for the further restoration, care, presentation and maintenance of the grounds, including monitoring the conditions of the landscape and H&S for staff, volunteers and the public. Oversight of the work programme of the existing Volunteers Coordinator in the grounds. Maintenance of water features and movement of water course, working with BCC and the Environment Agency.
