This Head of Development role will lead on Stage One's fundraising and development activity including managing and growing diverse income streams, donor relationship cultivation and managing reporting of programme activity.

Job Description

Stage One exists to support theatre producers across the UK. Stage One identifies, supports and trains emerging and mid-career theatre producers through workshops, placements, bursaries and mentoring. Stage One also invests in new commercial theatre productions, acts as advocates for producers and promotes supportive networking and access across the industry.

As the leading organisation championing theatre producers, Stage One has active working relationships with leading producers and companies across the West End and wider UK theatre industry, including SOLT and UK Theatre, Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, LW Theatres, Disney Theatrical Group, Sonia Friedman Productions, ATG Productions, Kenny Wax Productions and venues including Leicester Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome.

The Head of Development leads on all aspects of fundraising for the organisation and is joining the organisation at a great time. 2026 is our 50th year and we have strong connections across the industry including long term funding and delivery partners.

This part time role (2.5 days a week) will be part of a small but busy team and has the potential to be salaried or freelance depending on candidate's preference and personal circumstance. The job is hybrid with minimum one day a week in the London office (Covent Garden) and face to face meetings with donors when required. Some evenings and weekend work may be required for events.

Job Requirements

Knowledge & Experience:
Experience as a development/fundraising professional with a track record in successfully managing fundraising income streams in a relevant theatre or arts environment.
Experience managing relationships with key stakeholders including high level individual and/or corporate partners.
Clear income generation skills across multiple fundraising income streams.
Detailed knowledge of the current fundraising environment and the challenges facing those raising funds within the charity, arts and culture sectors.
Understanding of and commitment to the progression and importance of equity, diversity and inclusion of underrepresented voices in the theatre and wider arts industries.

Skills:
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
Exceptional interpersonal skills including relationship building and influence at all levels
Good organisational and time management skills with a can do attitude

Job Responsibilities

Operate to an annual target and within set budgets
Manage the organisation's existing corporate and individual donations, including renewal and uplift of donations
Manage the organisation's existing trust and foundations relationships
Lead on meetings with existing and potential donors
Coordinate and monitor fundraising activity, including maintaining donor records, reporting to funders and supporting income forecasting
Maintain an effective working relationship with the team, meeting regularly with the Operations Director and Programme Manager
Report quarterly to the Board of Trustees on fundraising activity
Ensure Stage One operates within fundraising law and responsible charity practice
