Overview of Role As YSP approaches its 50th anniversary it is at a pivotal moment in its history. The Trustees and Senior Leadership Team are developing proposals to secure the financial future of YSP for the next 50 years. The Head of Development will play a key part in realising that ambition by supporting a range of activities including fundraising for capital projects to nurturing and growing our supporter base. Overall purpose of the Role As Head of Development, you will work closely with Trustees, the Director and Senior Leadership Team (especially the Commercial Director, Head of Programme & Head of Estates and Projects). You will craft and execute an ambitious fundraising strategy that develops new income streams to fund our core mission while growing a pipeline of funding to help secure the long-term future of YSP. Through your leadership, specific targets and KPIs will be achieved on an annual basis. Currently, the development team generates £500k per annum from trusts and foundations, individuals and corporate partners, with £1.4m per annum in regular funding from Arts Council England and other statutory bodies. In line with a strategic investment plan supporting capital investment and revenue generation for programme priorities, the overall goal for YSP, is to increase voluntary and sponsorship income to £1m per annum over the next five years. In addition to working with the Executive and delivering specific projects you will lead, inspire, and develop a talented team (currently 4 posts), empowering them to deliver outstanding fundraising initiatives and events. This is a collaborative role working with all parts of YSP to achieve our collective goals, but a key priority will be working with the Director, Deputy Director and Trustees, to secure major gifts and build long-term relationships with a network of philanthropists, supporters and partners. Knowledge and experience of over 5 years in fundraising practice in a public or voluntary sector environment including experience of sponsor and donor cultivation. Experience of project management alongside developing and delivering strategic plans. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Experience of managing staff, creating positive culture to lead teams and projects to a successful outcome. Knowledge and experience of operating within current professional standards and expectations in fundraising. Efficient, resourceful, able to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines, while working in a collaborative way across multiple teams. Ability to structure and prioritise workload, with experience of setting up new, and improving existing processes and systems. Active interest in the visual arts and appreciation of the current funding landscape in the arts and culture sector. Flexibility to work out of hours occasionally sIn conjunction with the Deputy Director, take responsibility for the development and implementation of YSP's fundraising strategy. This will include the setting, meeting and monitoring of annual targets and team KPIs. Actively manage a prospective pipeline, identifying opportunities and taking responsibility for the preparation and delivery of cultivation plans which will build long-term relationships with current and prospective funders. Ensure the timely submission of compelling, persuasive and targeted funding propositions based on effective evaluation and monitoring. Build positive working relationships with Trustees on specific fundraising initiatives identified within the strategy, including major gifts, partnerships and fundraising events.
