We seek an experienced and dynamic Head of Marketing, Engagement, and Audiences to join our leadership team. This new role is pivotal in advancing our audience engagement and marketing strategies. You will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive audience and stakeholder engagement plans, ensuring our vision and mission resonate regionally and nationally.

As an experienced communicator who is passionate about engaging audiences and has strong staff management and leadership skills, you will lead on visitor experience, using insights to inform strategies and improve the visitor journey. You'll bring a collaborative approach to internal and external partnerships, working collaboratively with teams across the museum while overseeing the Museum's marketing, communications, and brand development to ensure vibrant and relevant content across all channels.

Job Requirements

You will be enthusiastic, highly organised, systematic, and accurate. You will communicate well with colleagues and our external stakeholders, partners, and suppliers. You will be proactive in problem-solving in a dynamic museum environment. As a confident and visible leader, you will enjoy building effective working relationships with a broad range of people and advocating for the museum's values and behaviours. As someone used to juggling multiple elements, you will be flexible and adaptable in your approach and passionate about maximising audience and stakeholder engagement and supporting the resilience and sustainability of the Bowes Museum.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the museum's Marketing Engagement and Audience Development function, ensuring it connects & communicates proactively & effectively with new & existing audiences & stakeholders and maintaining a superb visitor experience from beginning to end, increasing our Net Promoter Score.
  • Plan & deliver proactive public relations & media campaigns that build the profile of the Bowes Museum in the north of England, nationally & internationally.
  • Grow audience engagement & membership take-up through engaging & cohesive programmes & effective marketing strategies that help meet & exceed visitor numbers, customer loyalty, commercial growth & fundraising targets.
  • Undertake rigorous & relevant audience research, data collection & evaluation and generate insight & evaluation reports & presentations that inform marketing automation & targeted communications, programme planning, product development, visitor experience & business strategy.
  • Represent the museum in the culture & tourism sector.
