Orchestras for All seeks a Head of Music and Creative Practice who will lead the artistic vision of Orchestras for All, working alongside the Head of Wellbeing and two Youth Creative Associates (OFA Alums) to shape ambitious, inclusive and youth led creative programming for the charity.

The role requires both visionary leadership and a deep commitment to young people, ensuring that OFA's creative practice is ambitious, challenges convention, amplifies youth voice and models what an inclusive, accessible orchestra can truly be.

We especially encourage individuals with backgrounds and life experiences similar to the young people we support to apply, particularly those who are underrepresented in our team and the wider orchestral sector. For more information, please refer to our application pack.

Hours: up to 2 days a week. There may be some weeks with additional days of work during our residentials twice a year.

Contract: Part-time fixed-term contract until August 2028, with potential to extend to August 2030.

Salary: £45,000 annual salary (pro-rata). All travel, accommodation and subsistence (food and drink) is provided as per our policy.
Location: Working from home and various residential locations across the UK.

Job Requirements

Essential qualities

  • Leadership: proven experience in artistic or creative leadership within music or the arts.
  • Innovation: strong understanding of orchestral practice with a commitment to inclusive and innovative approaches.
  • Young People: experience of working safely and respectfully with young people from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities.
  • Collaboration: ability to co-design and deliver artistic programmes with teams, partners and young people.
  • Team Management: experience of leading and supporting artistic teams, including tutors and guest artists.
  • IDEA: clear commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility across all areas of work.
  • Communication: strong communication and collaboration skills, across a range of people from Boards, Youth Boards, donors and partners
  • Safeguarding: a strong commitment to safeguarding and experience of working within a robust safeguarding framework with young people.

Job Responsibilities

  • Creative vision, partnerships and advocacy: Co-design and drive forward artistic plans (2026-2028, extendable), develop partnerships, champion inclusive practice, support young people, and engage stakeholders in the creative strategy.

  • Artistic culture, practice and safeguarding: Set artistic culture and values; diversify guest artists; embed progression; oversee freelance teams; set artistic briefs; embed safeguarding-first practice; mentor Youth Creative Associates.

  • Orchestral practice, training and innovation: Drive orchestral innovation, define and champion OFA's approach, and facilitate training through the Music Leadership Training programme.
