Description
We are looking for a Head of Scenic Carpentry to supervise and manage the Scenic Carpentry workshop. Working closely with the Workshops Manager to manage workflow and resources. From early designs to loading of completed scenic items.
Reporting to the Head of Production, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):
- To plan and manage workload in association with the Workshops Manager and other Dept HODs.
- To work collaboratively with RSC production managers, HODs and technical designers to comply with technical design instructions and budgetary constraints, or otherwise communicate and discuss potential changes.
- To attend and contribute to planning, scheduling, costing and departmental meetings as required.
- To devise methods of construction with the drawing office and instruct team members.
- View 2D and 3D CAD information in paper and digital formats to obtain construction information, marking drawings as complete in the file management system.
To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:
- Proven experience of managing a workshop team at a similar professional level.
- A comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques and materials.
- Advanced construction techniques using a variety of materials.
- Experience with woodworking machinery including but not limited to; wall saw, radial arm saw, morticer, four-sided planer, handheld power tools and abrasive wheels.
- A good knowledge of appropriate regulations and Health and Safety legislation.
- Ability to plan and work within budgets.
This is a full-time permanent role based at our Workshop in Stratford-upon-Avon and the usual working hours are up to 48 hours per week. Normal hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday- Friday. However, some weekend and evening work will be required in busier periods.
