Tamworth Castle seeks a freelance consultant to design and deliver a short consultation project exploring the legacy of Gibbs & Canning, a historic Victorian terracotta manufacturer based in Tamworth.

Job Description

Tamworth Castle is seeking a heritage and community engagement consultant to deliver a short consultation project exploring the legacy of Gibbs & Canning, the renowned Victorian terracotta manufacturer once based in Tamworth.

The consultant will work with local community groups and residents to engage under-represented audiences with Tamworth's industrial heritage. They will co-deliver three creative consultation workshops alongside a ceramic artist, and carry out 1-2 interviews with local historians or community leaders.

The final output will be a concise consultation report (max. 15 pages) with analysis, recommendations, and an executive summary, due by 7 February 2026.

This consultation will inform future programming and underpin a future heritage funding application.

Fee: £3,225 (inclusive of VAT and all expenses) - based on approximately 9 days of work at £350 per day between October 2025 and February 2026.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in heritage or community engagement consultation

  • Strong facilitation skills, especially with diverse or under-represented groups

  • Knowledge of inclusive practice and co-production methods

  • Ability to analyse and present findings clearly for funders and stakeholders

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver 3 community consultation workshops with a ceramic artist

  • Gather and analyse consultation findings
