Curious Arts is seeking a collaborative, values-led and highly organised Heritage Producer to lead inclusive event delivery & sector engagement for Queering North East History – a landmark National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project designed to reclaim, preserve and celebrate LGBTQIA+ heritage.

Contract Type: Fixed Term - 3 Years
Hours: 28 hours per week (0.7 FTE)
Salary: £32,000 FTE (£22,400 actual)
Location: Offices in Hartlepool and Newcastle, with some home working and regular travel across North East England
Holiday: Pro rata holiday entitlement based on 28 days FTE (including Bank Holidays and 1 day for your birthday)
Benefits: Professional development training budget and pension scheme
Reports to: Senior Creative Producer
Responsible for: Digital Archivist and Heritage Volunteers
Funded by: The National Lottery Heritage Fund
Probation Period: 3 months
Notice Period: 2 months

Job Requirements

Skills & Experience:

  • A Minimum of 3-5 years' experience producing projects and events in cultural, heritage or community settings.
  • Knowledge or lived experience of LGBTQIA+ heritage, history or cultural work
  • Understanding of the heritage sector or experience working with archives, museums or collections
  • Proven project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple events across the region.
  • Experience working directly with intersectional and underrepresented communities and/or co-creating programmes.
  • Experience of line management and supporting professional development.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, training or mentoring
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in budget management and reporting to funders.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, reporting and evaluation methods.
  • Deep commitment to inclusion, especially in relation to accessible event design.

Job Responsibilities

  • Produce and deliver a public-facing programme of inclusive LGBTQIA+ heritage events, including:
    • 9 Public Archiving Events across the North East plus preliminary outreach activities/workshops.
    • 6 Spotlight Events showcasing creative interpretations of LGBTQIA+ histories
    • 3 Annual Meetings of the North East LGBTQIA+ Heritage Network
    • 6 Sector Challenge Workshops that bring together museums, archives and LGBTQIA+ heritage sector employees/representatives to explore inclusive practice and share learning.
  • Lead on event production: commissioning, venue booking, access planning, technical coordination, artist and speaker liaison, documentation, and budget tracking.
  • Recruit, train and manage 10-15 Heritage Volunteers across the three-year programme, creating clear role descriptions and development pathways.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organisations.
