Salary Full Time: £42,000 - 45,000 p.a. + 12.5% pension contribution and other benefits.

Location: Henry Moore Foundation, Perry Green, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire SG10 6EE

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a pivotal role in a small team within a leading arts charity offering a friendly and team-focused culture.

The HR Manager is the principal HR point of contact and leads on day to day HR matters, delivering a professional service across the organisation including: recruitment and professional development; all contractual matters and compliance with employment law and GDPR; monthly payroll processing; pensions and other employee benefits. The post-holder supports the Chief Operating Officer in HR policy development and the integration of Henry Moore Foundation values and behaviours.

The post is based at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, 30 miles north of London in rural East Hertfordshire, mid-way between London and Cambridge. On average, one day per month will be spent at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds. Some homeworking may be considered.

The appointed candidate must be available to take up this role by 14 July 2025.

Job Requirements

The following experience, skills, attributes and values are required (R), or desirable (D), to fulfil this role. These criteria will be used to shortlist potential candidates so, when completing your application form, please give examples of these skills and experiences:

  • Relevant CIPD qualification or at least 3 years equivalent level on the job experience (R)
  • At least 3 years previous experience in general HR practice at manager, officer or adviser level (R)
  • Experience in payroll processing (D) or a good understanding of payroll processes and willingness to learn (R)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK employment Law, HR functions and best practices (R)
  • Maths GCSE (D) or evidence of equivalent standard in numeracy skills (R)
  • Able to prioritise with excellent time management skills (R)
  • Approachable and empathetic, but with the ability to be steadfast and efficient when required and calm under pressure (R)
  • Strong organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail (R)

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary HR point of contact for the Foundation, supporting employees at both sites and ensuring best HR practice.
  • Review, update and implement HR and other company policies in liaison with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Review and update contracts of employment and standard terms and conditions of service, setting up new templates as required.
  • Oversee the annual performance review programme across the organisation, ensuring effective implementation by line managers and that all job descriptions are current.
  • Assess and support line managers in prioritising development needs across the organisation, researching and selecting suitable options for delivery in accordance with the budget, including e-learning.
  • Support the integration of Henry Moore Foundation values and behaviours across all HR processes and practices.
  • Manage all permanent staff recruitment to ensure effective and efficient selection of suitably experienced personnel.
