Job Summary

Wolverhampton Art Gallery is seeking a talented Interim Technical Manager to provide technical design and installation services to deliver a varied programme of changing exhibitions and permanent collection displays, and technical support for related events at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

Job Description

The successful candidate must:
Have a passion for arts and culture and be committed to the successful delivery of the exhibition programme and permanent displays.
Have a positive and flexible approach to their job.
Be a positive team player with excellent time management skills, experience in working to deadlines and effectively managing workloads.
Be a highly organised, flexible, creative problem solver with excellent written and verbal communications skills.
5 years previous experience in a similar role essential.

Job Requirements

1. To ensure a high standard of presentation and collections care in the exhibition and display Arts and Culture programme including:

a) Handling, moving, packing, storage and transport of diverse artworks and heritage collections and loan objects to museum standard including observing SPECTRUM documentation procedures required by Accreditation standard.

b) Represent CWC as a Courier, travelling to national and international venues accompanying artworks on loan from the collection, ensuring safe installation at the lending venue. Liaising with international galleries and transport agents on the logistics.

c) Liaise with curatorial staff and exhibiting artists and organisations to plan, schedule and coordinate all aspects of technical delivery of exhibitions and displays, including preparation of scale-plans, procurement and/or design and fabrication of display furniture, engaging external technical support, and planning safe methods of work

Job Responsibilities

d) Installation and takedown of exhibitions and events, working with curators/project leads, including preparation of and making good spaces, installing build, packing, unpacking and condition-checking of exhibits, handling and hanging art and heritage objects, installing interpretation and lighting.

e) Provision of technical support to artists with installations, residencies or workshops.

f) Install and maintain multimedia, film and video works to precise specifications Including converting video files and encoding bright sign players.

g) Preparation of exhibits for display, including minor restoration/ conservation, cleaning, mounting and framing.
