Job Summary

The museum is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join the Exhibitions team to work on the delivery of high-profile touring exhibitions and international advisory and consultancy projects.

Project development and delivery

  • Manage the development of international touring exhibitions, including reviewing content and narrative with curators to ensure that it is suitable for international touring.
  • Collate all necessary information and coordinate the inputs of colleagues within the museum and external parties to enable the effective promotion and delivery of tours, working with curators and project teams throughout the development of temporary exhibitions.
  • Manage all elements of a number of touring exhibitions including project schedules, loans negotiation and administration, 3D / 2D design development, text delivery, transport tenders and appointments, and insurance.

Budgets

  • Manage and maintain project budgets, ensuring projects are delivered within the specified budget through efficient forecasting and administration.
  • Demonstrate financial awareness and strive to contribute to the museum's financial success by maximising income, making savings where possible and delivering projects on budget.

Research, marketing and prospection

  • Carry out research to help identify new international prospects and assess ideas for exhibitions.
  • Monitor, log and respond to international enquiries, maintaining meticulous records on the museum's Customer Relations Management (CRM) system.
  • Working with the Head of International Engagement and Senior International Project Manager, support the promotion of the museum's touring programme and advisory and consultancy services.

Job Requirements

Person specification
Essential - Experience, Knowledge, Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in managing and successfully delivering complex projects within a museum or gallery context.
  • Previous experience working on international projects and/or international touring exhibitions.
  • Demonstrable project management skills with the ability to manage several projects concurrently, maintaining a flexible approach when working under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and external parties.
  • Good leadership and people management skills; able to lead and motivate teams during installation and de-rig.
  • Excellent knowledge of museum-standard handling, packing, transport, display and installation requirements.

Job Responsibilities

The role will suit an individual with previous project management experience in coordinating and delivering museum exhibitions internationally. They will be an expert communicator, adept at developing strong working relationships, both internally and with external partners, to deliver engaging and commercially successful projects.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: up to £34,815 per annum, dependent on experience

Contract: fixed-term (18 months)

Holidays: 25 days per annum + Christmas Eve (museum closed)

Hours: 35 hours per week / 5 days per week (full-time)

Location: the Design Museum Kensington is the place of work - with a hybrid arrangement of 60% of an employee's role to be performed at the museum and 40% remote.

Special demands of the role: there may be a requirement on occasion to work outside of the United Kingdom.
