Job Summary

Gloucester City Council's Bright Nights team are calling out for artists to apply to be involved with this year's Lantern Parade in November 2026.

Job Description

To work with a school or community group to produce a series of lanterns, in response to the theme: Maritime. The lanterns will be a mix of one large centre piece and smaller lanterns designed and produced in collaboration with the school / community group.

The project will include artist workshops in schools / community venue(s) and a finale procession for the Christmas Lights switch-on on Saturday 14 November 2026 from 16:00 - 17:30 (approx.).

The artist will:

- Attend an artist planning meeting to discuss parade theme, school / community group allocations and schedules.

- Produce one large piece and accompanying smaller lanterns.

- Work with Art Lead teacher at their matched primary school / community lead at a group, to arrange workshops in line with their availability.

- Liaise with the artist cohort to ensure artistic consistency.

- Order materials within budget.

- Hold planning sessions and workshops in schools.

- Provide DBS certificates and insurance details to Gloucester City Council.

- Produce the processional works by Saturday 14 November ready for the parade and ensure that all lanterns are dry upon in time for the parade.

- Be present and take part in the procession alongside their matched school / group.

The fee is £1,925 for this role, plus travel and materials.

Work schedule: 42 hours
