To be an integral part of the Academic team as Lead teacher for EAL, delivering top quality teaching & learning to those students who speak English as an additional language.

Job Description

This role is designed to contribute to the excellent academic standards of the School and to the success of the academic department. The post holder is required to play a full and active role in the broader School life, pastorally and artistically

CONTRACT TERMS:

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:15am - 4.15pm (term time only)

Salary: The School has its own pay scale and the starting salary point will take into consideration knowledge, skills and experience.

Location: White Lodge, Richmond Park

Start Date: September 2025

MAIN DUTIES

Role Purpose:

  • To teach EAL at White Lodge in line with the prevailing curriculum offer
  • To prepare students for examination entry on appropriate EAL/ESL courses as agreed with the Senior Teacher (White Lodge)
  • To ensure that all examination administration and access arrangements, where necessary, are completed effectively and in good time
  • To provide in-class EAL support in a variety of subject areas
  • To enable pupils with EAL to transfer skills from one topic/subject to another
  • To contribute to the highest academic standards at The Royal Ballet School
  • Support the aims and ethos of the School.

Teaching:

Academic Staff are encouraged to take a full and active part in the life of the School departmentally, pastorally and artistically. This would include attendance at all significant school events, functions and performances, parents' meetings, Inset (up to 7 days) and so on.

The expectations below are all assumed to be in line with relevant School and departmental policies.

  • Planning & preparing lessons with due regard for the need for differentiation
  • Providing & developing differentiated resources to ensure students' access to the curriculum and development of EAL
  • Setting and marking work and recording marks as required
  • Promoting, monitoring and encouraging student progress
  • Maintaining good order and discipline in line with the School's Behaviour Policy.

Job Requirements

Essential Criteria -

  • Educated to degree level CELTA in TEFL, Trinity CertTESOL (or equivalent TEFL qualification or substantial relevant experience)
  • An ability, confidence and initiative to work 1:1 or with small groups of students
  • Strong, proven experience of teaching EAL at this age
  • Flexibility and proactivity of approach needed to contribute effectively to the running of a small school
  • Capable of maintaining correct professional etiquette and courtesy with students and staff
  • Strong communication skills with young people, their parents and staff
  • Empathy with the aims and ethos of the School.

Desirable Criteria -

  • Experience of providing Learning Support in a classroom environment
  • Fluency in English and one other language
  • Recent experience in teaching a mixed ability range
  • An awareness of syllabus development in TEFL/EAL and other appropriate courses.
