Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and passionate support worker with an interest in the arts and experience of working with people affected by homelessness or in the social sector to join us on a casual basis.

Job Description

The role of London Support Worker involves supporting the weekly sessions - these run on Wednesdays during term time. You would be required to work from 3:30pm to 6:30pm, in addition to up to 1 hour a week before or after the session to pick up on any urgent pastoral care between sessions or communications with performers.

The role will also cover additional hours supporting events and Streetwise Plus sessions, which can include supporting performers during theatre trips, cultural events, visiting exhibitions and taking part in creative skills development workshops.

At present, this role will cover the current support worker role as needed, and sessions will therefore be booked on an ad hoc basis. However, there may be opportunities for more regular hours in the future, depending on organisational needs.

You will work in collaboration with a dedicated team, supporting individuals to participate in singing and creative sessions, enabling participants' self-expression within the principles of our values.

Weekly Streetwise Sessions take place at The Old Vic Theatre. Streetwise Plus trips will take place across a variety of cultural venues in London.

Engagement expected to run from April 2026 to March 2027.

  • Freelance agreement - £90 per session (£22.50 per hour).
  • A minimum number of sessions per term will be offered.
  • Additional hours at the £22.50 p/h rate may be offered for Streetwise Plus trips (cultural / theatre visits).
  • Weekly Streetwise Sessions take place at The Old Vic Theatre. Streetwise Plus trips will take place across a variety of cultural venues in London.

  • Knowledge/understanding of the homeless sector and/or experience of working with adults of risk.
  • An understanding of the issues around homelessness, and the ability to empathise and engage with our performers.
  • An understanding of, and interest in, the performing arts and how they deliver direct social impact.

Job Responsibilities

  • Communicate the values of Streetwise Opera and guide the performers to follow these.
  • Join in with activities during the workshops, which involve music, singing and drama, in order to provide a positive role model for performers.
  • Manage conflict if and when it arises, liaising with the session leaders and London Regional Producer where appropriate.
  • As required, purchase refreshments, oversee distribution of refreshments during the break and clear away after the break.
  • Meet performers and ensure they know the arrangements and schedule for relevant events / sessions.
  • Support performers throughout events, ensuring they are comfortable and dealing with any problems or situations which may arise.
