The Test Space at Clifton Park Museum seeks a printmaker to mentor Young Artist in Residence, from April–Sept 2025. Both will create work on themes of ‘identity’ for an exhibition. The role includes 16 days of mentoring, skills-sharing, and exhibition prep, with a £4000 fee plus £500 for materials.

Job Description

The Test Space at Clifton Park Museum supports emerging artists through a residency with gallery access, mentoring, and facilities. The space includes exhibition display cases, a TV screen, and wall space, and can be used for private development or public exhibitions.

The Young Artist in Residence programme, run by Children's Capital of Culture and Rotherham Museums, Arts & Heritage, provides an emerging artist with the opportunity to develop work inspired by the Museum's collection. From April-Sept 2025, a professional printmaker will mentor the Young Artist in Residence, Natalie, as they create an exhibition on the theme of 'identity.'

Natalie, a practicing printmaker in Rotherham completing her Fine Art degree at UCR, is refining her skills in Cyanotype and Intaglio print. She seeks a mentor with printmaking experience, ideally with business knowledge, who shares enthusiasm for the process.

The selected artist will provide mentoring and skills-sharing opportunities over approximately 16 days, collaborating with Natalie on new work for the exhibition. The role includes setting up a mentoring structure, documenting progress, and offering practical guidance.

Rotherham Museums, Arts & Heritage and Children's Capital of Culture will:

  • Facilitate mentoring and provide workspace if needed
  • Offer display space at Clifton Park Museum
  • Promote the exhibition via social media
  • Provide regular support and access to museum collections
  • Offer time with
  • Provide £4000 for artist time (inclusive of travel and expenses) and £500 for materials
  • Secure reproduction rights for promotion

The chosen artist retains ownership of their work and will participate in evaluations. Applicants should be available for an introductory coaching session on April 11th.

Job Requirements

Essential:

- Posses an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate or be willing to apply for one for this role. The CCoC team are able to help with this if needed.

- Experience of working in print work

- Experience of exhibiting your work

- Considerable experience of being employed for your creative practice

- Experience of working with non-professionals such as young people and / or community groups

Desirable:

- Experience of, or demonstration of relevant skills for, being a mentor

- Experience of working in Rotherham Borough or the local area

Job Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced printmaker to mentor our Young Artist in Residence, helping them develop their skills, confidence, and creative portfolio. Both the mentor and the Young Artist will create new work inspired by the theme of 'identity,' which will be displayed in an exhibition at Clifton Park Museum's Test Space.

Rotherham Museums, Arts & Heritage, in collaboration with Children's Capital of Culture, will offer:

  • Mentoring relationship with the Young Artist in Residence
  • Meeting and work space as needed
  • Display space for exhibition at Clifton Park Museum
  • Promotion via CCoC and Clifton Park Museum's social media
  • Regular support, feedback, and access to collections (subject to capacity)
  • Time with creative coach Auriel Majumdar
  • £4000 payment for artist's time (including travel) and up to £500 for materials
  • Reproduction rights for new work for documentation and promotion
