Job Title: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Assistant
Location: Dudley
Salary: £26,742 per annum
Hours: 39 hours per week, including occasional weekend and Bank Holiday work
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Black Country Living Museum is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our Historical Buildings and Site Conservation Team. We are looking for someone with experience or transferable skills in planning maintenance projects from inspection through to completion, and an interest in working with historic buildings and objects while learning how to blend modern and traditional building techniques.

This is a practical, varied role working across a collection of historic buildings on the museum's 31-acre site. The role involves a flexible working pattern, including occasional weekend, Bank Holiday and evening work to support museum operations and events.

Job Requirements

What are we looking for?

  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have a comprehensive understanding of construction and/or relevant trade qualifications (NVQ or City & Guilds).
  • A willingness to learn and a proactive attitude towards construction and general maintenance operations.
  • Confident IT skills which will be essential for documenting completed work and ordering materials.
  • A willingness to work collaboratively, share knowledge, skills and information within a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Job Responsibilities

What will you be doing?

  • Undertaking repairs and maintenance across museum buildings and site structures, drawing on a broad range of general building skills such as carpentry, plumbing, brickwork, groundwork, and gardening.
  • Operating tools, equipment and plant complying with health and safety legislation.
  • Working on the museum's historical buildings using traditional methods and materials.
  • Carrying out duties to assist in the take-down of buildings/structures off-site and the rebuild on the museum site.
  • Assisting with general site work where appropriate.
  • Supporting with the electronic 'help desk' administration.
  • Participating in the setting up, operation and taking down of museum events when required.
  • Operating company vans on and off site, including the collection and delivery of materials and equipment.
