"WEST" Youth Zone, named Where Everyone Sticks Together by local young people, opened on April this year. At WEST, we believe all young people in West London should have the opportunity to discover their passion and their purpose and be able to explore where it can take them.
The arts offer at WEST is wide-ranging and includes visual arts, music, media, dance and drama. As a member of the Arts Team, you will be key in ensuring young people have access to an exciting and creative arts programme that will be challenging, stimulating, fun, engaging and developmental.
Ideally, you will have experience delivering one or more of the following arts:
- Music teaching experience and the ability to teach a musical instrument to a high level
- Ensemble teaching experience, including the ability to create a youth musical ensemble
- Percussion teaching experience and the ability to teach a range of rhythmic instruments
- Experience or background in music styles including but not limited to Jazz, Pop, Blues, Folk, Dance, Dancehall, Rock, Rap, Spoken Word, Country, Classical, Punk, Techno, R&B
Please note that to be successful, you do not need to be proficient in every area of the type of music, we are interested in seeing the skills and experience you can bring to WEST! Youth workers plan and deliver high quality youth work that supports young people in their personal, social and educational development. The role will require you to assist with Juniors (8 - 12 yrs) and/or Seniors (13 - 19 yrs) and/or Beyond (members with additional needs up to 25 yrs)
This is a permanent part-time role, paid monthly in line with London Living Wage (£13.15 p/h) raising by the end of April. Based on your availability and skillset, this could be up to 19 hours per week.
- Experience of working with groups of young people aged 8 to 19, or up to aged 25 with a disability.
- Experience of delivering arts sessions to young people.
- Experience of team working and working alongside volunteers.
- Experience in one or more arts medium.
- Ability to deliver high quality arts programmes with young people who face social exclusion, disadvantage and disaffection and manage such a group.
- Able to work as part of a team and under own initiative. Able to plan and evaluate the programme of activities, including production of session plans and evaluations.
- Able to communicate effectively with young people, parents, team members and members of the public.
- Knowledge of health and safety, diversity awareness and safeguarding best practice
- Satisfactory DBS clearance and committed to safeguarding children
- Ability to engage and build positive relationships with young people including disengaged and disadvantaged young people.
- Excellent timekeeper
- Together with the Junior Club Manager, Senior Club Manager and our Arts Coordinator, develop and implement a programme that is exciting, challenging and ever- changing.
- To directly deliver a high-quality programme of activity that is exciting, safe, varied, innovative, developmental and directly responds to the diverse needs, concerns and interests of our members.
- Ability to enthuse others including core staff, youth workers, volunteers, and young people.
- To have great energy to establish positive relationships with young people and the wider youth work team and visitors to the Youth Zone.
- To respond to the needs of the young people through activities and project work.
- To work flexibly to ensure the needs of the members are met, including disadvantaged young people and those with disabilities or additional needs.
- To ensure that the members maintain a high standard of behaviour and discipline during sessions by making the area a hub of activity and fun.
