Description

Job Summary

Newham Council is seeking an experienced participatory artist to create a new mosaic artwork with our residents. The artwork will be permanently display at Newham Heritage Centre, opening in 2027. Artist’s fee: £8,400 for planning, workshops and creation of the artwork. Separate materials budget.

Job Description

Newham Heritage Centre, opening in the summer of 2027, will be the borough's newest cultural hub, exploring Newham's diverse histories and stories.

Upon completion it will contain a new exhibition space, a reading room, a digital media suite, room for hire and learning space for all. Central to this project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is the delivery of an ambitious creative engagement programme reaching residents throughout the borough.

Newham Heritage Centre will enable residents of all ages to explore local heritage in new and creative ways and to work alongside artists to celebrate our extraordinary borough.

As part of this programme, we are commissioning a new mosaic artwork. The artwork's design will explore the theme of 'neighbourhood' and be shaped by local people. Working alongside our team, the appointed artist will lead community engagement workshops to understand residents' thoughts, ideas and responses to this theme. These responses will be used to inspire the artist's final artwork design.

The artist will then lead 10 participatory mosaic workshops in Newham's libraries to make the new artwork, which will go on permanent display in Newham Heritage Centre.

Artist's fee: £8,400 for planning and delivery of workshops and creation of the artwork. Based on £350 a day x 24 days.
