Job Summary

Caromoon Productions are seeking passionate and new playwrights to submit short, 15-minute plays for an exciting evening of theatre, centred around the evolving relationship of two women in their late twenties, Julia and Alex.

Job Description

5 Playwrights, 2 Actors and 1 Relationship.

Caromoon Productions are creating an evening of theatre based on one relationship written by five playwrights. To submit, you must write a short play one of the below sections. You can write on more than one, but please note only one play per writer will be selected. Your work will join four other selected plays, each telling a pivotal moment in their journey together to form one play.

Please note:

This is a repost from last year and due to technical issues, we lost the submissions. If you submitted for this brief last year, we would welcome your original piece. Please read the terms listed below and if happy, please do re-submit and share this information in your email.

Choose One of the Following Sections to Write On:

  1. The First Date - Julia and Alex meet for the first time - Sparks fly.
  2. An Intimate Moment - A scene capturing vulnerability, closeness, and connection.
  3. A Rift in the Relationship - Conflict, tension, and the challenges that test their bond.
  4. The make or break - a poignant point of the relationship that has the potential to break or heal the bond.
  5. The new normal - Commitment or closure of the relationship between Julia and Alex (which is set at Christmas)

Submission Guidelines:

  • Play Length: 15 minutes max (around 15 pages of dialogue.)
  • Theme: You must explore a selected moment in the relationship between Julia and Alex, both female and age range 27-31.
  • Alex - Artist/ Barista, free spirit - seeking something magical.
  • Julia - Trainee Lawyer, works too much and has a ill parent.
  • Characters: Plays must only have Julia and Alex, as there are only two actors. As we have five playwrights try to focus on the relationship between Julia and Alex rather than specifics that will be difficult to sustain when aligned with other plays.
  • Format: One-act play, set (two chairs and one table) and no prop requirements preferred. Please ensure your short play has a start, middle and end.
