This is a 12 month freelance contract to support the James Reckitt Library Trust to progress their ambition to build a Culture of Curiosity in Hull. Born in 1833, Sir James Reckitt remains one of Hull's most famous citizens. One of the driving forces behind Reckitt and Sons, he was also a powerful advocate for public libraries. He founded the first free public library in the city in 1889. Famously quoted as saying: 'The main object of a free library is not only in satisfying a thirst for knowledge, but to create a thirst where it is now absent'. Over the past 18 months the James Reckitt Library Trust (JRLT) has breathed new life into that sentiment by championing a mission to build a Culture of Curiosity in Hull. A programme of activity has already begun and this post will support the further development and delivery of the programme to celebrate James Reckitt and drive his ideas forward to further the creation of a City of Curiosity. The Partnership Director will report to the Curiosity Steering Group which consists of key JRLT Trustees, senior business leaders and influential thinkers from around the city. The role is funded primarily by the JRLT and the Partnership Director will be contracted through them. The postholder will develop and ensure a strong and collaborative working relationship with the City's Library Service. Fees The expectation is that, over the 12 months, the postholder will devote an estimated 140 - 150 days to the duties, assuming 3 days per week over 48 weeks, to be agreed with the Chair of the Curiosity Steering Group. The hours are flexible, with the pattern of work to be agreed with the Chair. A standard working week for a full-time role would be 37 hours, that is 7.4 hours per day. The successful postholder will be required to present evidence of their Self-Employed status to undertake this work and will be responsible for all tax and National Insurance arrangements. Stage payments will be made on the completion of an agreed programme of deliverables.
