About the Role We're seeking a performer or creative collaborator to play the role of a fitness instructor in an immersive, participatory gym-based experience. Fee This opportunity is open to emerging and established artists based in or near Coventry. We welcome proposals from artists further afield, but we are unable to provide additional travel or subsistence support, so please consider this before applying. We encourage applications applications from artists who are underrepresented in the arts and creative technology sectors, including but not limited to: global majority artists, D/deaf and disabled artists, neurodivergent artists, LGBTQIA+ artists, artists from working-class backgrounds, and those with lived experience of chronic illness or mental health challenges. We value lived experience and are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment for all collaborators. Project Context - Active Minutes Participants wear smartphones in armbands and use bone-conducting headphones. They're scored, sorted, grouped, and ranked (sometimes unfairly) via a custom-built, app-free smartphone platform, NAIAD. The tech delivers everything from personal training feedback to surprise moments-like a mystery fart during the warm-up. Phones are both a tool and a tension point in the experience. Their use is limited but integrated into the story. The piece begins like a standard workout and shifts into something entirely unexpected. Developed with support from InnovateUK, Active Minutes is the first show built specifically for the NAIAD platform. It addresses the accessibility of both immersive experiences and group exercise, offering a playful and thoughtful take on inclusion, participation, and connection. We're committed to best-practice approaches to accessibility, onboarding/offboarding, and in-universe inclusion. About Our Funders & Partners Development of the NAIAD platform has been supported by Arts Council England, InnovateUK, Coventry University's Centre for Creative Economies, and the British Academy.
