We are seeking an experienced performing arts professional who will lead the development of Rotherham Council’s performing arts offer including the development of the programme at Rotherham Civic Theatre.

Job Description

The Performing Art Programme Manager is responsible for the delivery of the diverse programme of performances at Rotherham Civic Theatre, outreach and engagement programmes across local communities, development of commercial business areas across Box Office, Bar & Hospitality, Sponsorship & Donations and Fundraising.

Rotherham Council is now seeking an energetic and imaginative Performing Arts Programme Manager with experience of developing bold and engaging programmes to lead this team and the future development of performing arts in Rotherham. The role will require the curation of professional programmes for its auditorium, the development of a community-focused and more experimental programme for its new 100-seat studio space launching in Autumn 2026, the development and creation of an in house productions programme and the development of performances in community settings. The ideal candidate will have extensive networks of artists, performers and touring shows, a proven track record of curating and hosting performing arts festivals, and the ability to fundraise for these programmes, with demonstrable knowledge and experience of successfully managing a performing arts programme at a home venue as well as varied settings.

We're looking for someone who can champion performing arts within the Rotherham Civic Theatre and across the borough, nurturing new talents and collaborating with other local services and organisations to delivery experimental and exciting new experiences for diverse audiences in Rotherham.

This role is a key strategic role leading a small but effective Theatre Team in the delivery of the Council's core performing arts programme

Job Requirements

  • Experience and proven track record of developing and delivering high-quality, creative and imaginative performing arts programmes for a range of ages and audiences in a range of settings
  • Proven track record of directing and managing artistic and creative productions and collaborations, negotiating creative contracts
  • Proven experience and track record of managing budgets and developing successful funding bids
  • Track record of leading multidisciplinary and complex teams of staff, partners, volunteers and stakeholders
  • Proven experience of relationship management at a strategic level building advocacy and influence
  • Knowledge and experience of current Safeguarding requirements relating to performing arts settings & working with vulnerable communities
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of audiences, and a good understanding of current equalities, inclusion and accessibility practices
  • Experience of managing, coaching and developing staff teams and volunteers

Job Responsibilities

Developing and implementing a clear strategic direction of the service to include vision, mission and values alongside service implementation plans and strategies

Working alongside the Head of Creative Programming & Engagement and consultants as required to develop a 10-year development strategy for performing arts in Rotherham including capital programmes, community outreach and audience development

Oversee the overall artistic development of the programme at Rotherham Civic Theatre professional productions and signature in house productions including the development and implementation of artistic programming policies, ethical policies and standards

Leading on the strategic development, commissioning and negotiations related to the annual pantomime working alongside the Rotherham Civic Theatre General Manager to manage the overall commercial performance of this programme

Key relationship management with funders, creative partners, community partners and internal stakeholders
