Primary music education specialist to support and strengthen music provision in primary schools across Cornwall. Central to the delivery of our School Engagement Strategy, this role will focus on supporting primary teachers to confidently deliver music education and increase engagement with schools.

Type of Contract: ASONE Hub Fixed term up to September 2027, (onward funding confirmed April 2026)
Location: Hybrid - Remote, ASONE Hub Redruth TR15 and schools across Cornwall
The successful applicant will:
- Develop and maintain supportive relationships with primary schools, especially those under-engaged with the Hub.
- Support non-specialist primary teachers to build confidence and capability in delivering music within the curriculum, through tailored CPD, mentoring, and resource sharing.
- Engage schools that have had limited or no prior Hub support, or which require targeted interventions.
- Coordinate a programme of CPD, peer mentoring, and termly teacher networks tailored to the specific needs of primary schools and informed by music teachers/leads.
- Strengthen progression pathways in music, especially transition from primary to secondary education.
- Support schools in creating and delivering School Music Plans aligned to the NPME and LPME.
- Encourage participation in School Projects and continuation routes beyond the initial stages.
- Collaborate with the Secondary Music Development Lead to support continuation after School Projects, facilitating progression planning between primary and secondary schools, supporting smooth transitions for young musicians.
- Work collaboratively with the Hub team, other Leads and delivery partners to co-design programmes and projects tailored to primary settings.
- Champion inclusive and accessible music provision across a wide range of settings, particularly in small, rural, and SEND settings.
- Promote the value of music within the primary curriculum and advocate for inclusive, high-quality provision.
- Monitor school engagement and contribute to feedback, case studies, evaluation and reporting processes.
ASONE Hub is seeking an experienced primary music education specialist to support and strengthen music provision in primary schools across Cornwall. Central to the delivery of our School Engagement Strategy, this role will focus on supporting primary teachers to confidently deliver music education and increase engagement with schools not currently participating in Hub activity.
You will act as the main point of contact for music leads, class teachers and relevant educators - building relationships, identifying needs and connecting schools with the opportunities ASONE Hub and its partners offer.
- Extensive experience in primary music education, with a strong understanding of classroom teaching, the primary curriculum and the role of music within it.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with schools/teachers.
- Awareness of the challenges facing schools in rural or under-resourced contexts.
- Awareness of the challenges facing non-specialist music teachers and music leads in primary schools.
- Experience in designing and/or delivering CPD or school improvement initiatives.
- Passionate about inclusive music education and committed to equity and access for all children.
- Knowledge of how music education can support transitions between Key Stages 2 and 3.
- Ability to work independently in a part-time, flexible role.
- Skilled in project planning, partnership working and stakeholder engagement.
- Willingness to travel across Cornwall and work flexibly when needed.
